AIRBUS UK BROUGHTON 0 CAERSWS
Sunday 29th March, The Airfield, Broughton
Caersws ended their 8 match winless run and obtained a precious but well deserved three points as they kept up their impressive record at a sunny Airfield.
The first half started slowly with Caersws keen to avoid conceding an early goal which had hampered them in recent games on the road and both team started slowly without any real threat with passes misplaced continually by both sides.
On 14 minutes the first real attempt on goal was made by the home side who saw a hopeful free kick into the Caersws box headed narrowly wide by James McIntosh. Two minutes later Caersws responded with a harmless shot from Jamie Haynes from 20 yards which was comfortably saved by Keeper Chris Doran.
On 19 minutes Airbus Danny Desormeaux beat the static Caersws backline after a great ball by Ashley Williams but his shot was smothered superbly by the onrushing John Rowley back in the Caersws goal.
On the half hour Graham Jones crossed for Ross Jefferies to head over and a minute later the home side missed a glorious chance when Matthew Cooks cross was headed wide by Mark Cadwallader with the goal begging.
The Home side went close again before the interval narrowly passing Rowleys right hand post and at the other end Steve Hopkins sent a free kick over and his cross on the stroke of half time was headed wide by Aeron Edwards at the back post.
The second half started brightly again with Caersws looking to utilise Stewart whites pace and on 49 minutes a cross from the impressive Jon Jones found Mark Davies at the back post who fed White who fired miles over from the edge of a crowded box.
White had a glorious chance on 52 minutes latching onto a Haynes through ball but just failed to lift it over the goalie with only him to beat. Chances continued to come thick and fast for the visitors with another great cross from Jon Jones headed onto the bar by Jefferies with the goalie helpless.
As the clock continued to tick, the frustration began to show as White shot over yet again with teammates better placed. The bluebirds almost paid for this on 70 minutes when a free kick from Giovanni Felicello forced Rowley into producing a world class save to keep his side in the game and possibly in the division.
Thankfully just four minutes Caersws had a similar free kick which did find the net thanks to a superb strike by Stewart White. The Bluebirds almost doubled the lead within a minute when Aeron Edwards charged into the box and hit a thunderous shot which cannoned off the crossbar for the second time.
Thankfully with 10 minutes to go the visitors sealed the points when Haynes free kick was headed home expertly by Jefferies who made no mistake. The finals moment saw Airbus failed to respond or mount a comeback despite a mysterious four minutes of injury time.
This was a great performance from the bluebirds, who grew in confidence as the game went on and perhaps should have made the score line more emphatic, but the returning John Rowley, Ross Jefferies and Stewart White once again made a big difference in what looks like a tense finale to the season.
