Caersws 0 - 0 GAP CQ

August 18th 2009

Loosemores Cup Group Stage.

Having created many good oppuuties throughout the match , the Bluebirds would have been disappointed not to have won this game , but this was a much better performance than against Aberystwyth Town the previous Saturday. Missing experienced players Hugh Clarke and Lee Jenkins the management gave a first team debut to Eddie Maurice - Jones , who impressed many with his skills . After 5 minutes Chris Herbert shot wide from 20 yards for the visitors and 3 minutes later, home defender Jonathan Jones was forced to clear off his own goal line.

On 20 minutes Herbert sent his effort wide at the back post following a cross from the right by the dangerous Stuart Cook. Caersws came back strongly into the game and 23 minutes Matt Prosser sent a back post header narrowly wide. After 28 minutes Caersws mid fielder Gareth Mansell saw his 20 yard shot deflected by a visitors defender for a corner , and a minute later Prosser saw his close range effort blocked by stand in keeper Wes Kilgannon . Caersws looked the most likely side to score with the returning central defender Mathew Holt sending an effort narrowly wide following Kevin Davies free kick from wide on the left on 33 minuets. The second half started with Caersws looking the most likely side to score playing good constructive football but in the 48th minute the speeder Jamie Petrie hit the side netting for the visitors . On the 56th minute James Taylor saw his header cleared off the visitors goal line following Maurice Jones corner kick, many people thinking it had crossed the goal line .On the hour Dave Jones in the home goal was forced to save well from Petrie .

On the 65th minutes another free kick by Davies saw Taylors shot superbly blocked by keeper Kilgannon. In the 81st minute Maurice Jones cross from left saw Prosser head narrowly wide once again. In a rare Connahs Quay attack Alan Glover saw his free kick from wide on the left, palmed away by Jones in the villagers goal for a fruitless corner. Overall this was an encouraging performance by the Bluebirds with a defence looking much more confident and keeping a clean sheet.
