CAERSWS 3 - 0 TECHNOGROUP WELSHPOOL
SATURDAY 29th AUGUST.
Caersws comfortably defeated their Mid -Wales rivals to record their first victory of the season .
Two early 2nd half goals sealed the game after a fairly even first period.
After 4 minutes home keeper Dave Jones comfortably held an effort from Welshpool captain George Hughes and 6 minutes later visitors keeper Jack Cudworth held Kevin Davis cross from the left. On 13 minutes Jones was forced to push away a free kick from the impressive Lilywhites wing back Peter Doran.
After 24 minutes Carl Lamb saw his effort from 20 yards held by Jones. Caersws opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when Matt Prosser beat the highly rated Cudworth after being released by the impressive Geraint Lewis.
Four minutes before the interval Chris Melia went close with an overhead kick. With half time fast approaching Cudworth kept the visitors in the game with two superb saves from midfielder Lewis.
Four minutes after the break Caersws got their second goal when Melia superbly nodded in an inch perfect right wing cross from Graham Jones over a stranded Cudworth. On 52nd minute Cudworth once again produced an excellent save from Gareth Mansell but the Bluebirds sealed the game a minute later when Lewis headed in a Lee Jenkins corner for his second goal of the season.
Caersws then went on to dominate the period with Melia shooting over from 20 yards after 57 minutes and Lewis seeing his shot deflected for a corner in the 72nd minute.
With welshpool rarely able to get out of their own, half central defender Matthew holt saw his shot deflected for a corner in the 74th minute, two minutes later Mansell saw his effort from 25 yards go narrowly over. In a rare pool attack Gareth Mansell sent a free kick from the edge of the box high over the bar in the 86th minute, but Caersws saw another effort from Mansell go close from 20 yards.
An excellent performance to build on form the bluebirds, good to keep a clean sheet and to create chances which could have made the score line more emphatic. The only downside was a nasty injury to Kevin Davies who broke his nose and suffered a hairline fracture to his shoulder.
