Plas Kynaston Lane Friday 9th October 2009

Welsh Premier League
Caersws obtained a valuable away point at fellow strugglers Druids but they created numerous chances which should have meant a comfortable victory. Despite missing regulars Graham Jones and Chris Melia, Caersws dominated much of the possession and looked the better sidethroughout. Cefn Druids took the lead against the run of play in the fourth minute when on-loan man Craig Whitfield latched onto a stray ball to beat the onrushing Dave Jones from 15 yards with the ball appearing to go straight through the keepers legs. However, Caersws were level on 12 minutes when promising youngster Jacob Smith making his first start in the WPL took advantage of a weak back pass by Lee Bamber to score his first senior goal. Good chances in the first half were then at a premium, but on 38 minutes James Hussaney saw a effort deflected for a corner but Caersws finished the half strong and had two notable Caersws continued to have the better of the exchanges after the break with Druids relying on the occasional breakaway. Prosser should have done better when four minutes into the second period he shot wide. Dave Hughes also send a 20 yard free kick inches wide in the 52nd minute. At the other end Druids Martin Walsh sent an effort wide after a good run just before the hour mark but at the other end the non-stop running and pace of Smith was causing the home rearguard all kinds of problems as he saw another shot blocked on 62 minutes. Druids sub Gary Penlington saw a shot go narrowly wide minutes after coming on in the 66th minutes and on 70 minutes Adam Hesp saw his effort disallowed after a foul in the box. Caersws continued to push for a goal their possession deserved with Prosser seeing a shot deflected for a corner, Matthew Holt seeing his header held by Rob Thomas and in the final minute Smith narrowly failing to get on the end of Lee Jenkins left wing cross. This was very encouraging to see the bluebirds creating chances but their need to be much more clinical in the final third.
