Caersws 1 Porthmadog 1
Loosemores League Cup

A draw was a fair result in this final group match played in atrocious conditions which saw only 102 brave fans turn up at the Rec. With Caersws unable to qualify for the quarter finals the management gave a number of fringe players the opportunity and all of them did well against a full strength Porthmadog side.
After 3 minutes Matt Prosser saw an effort go wide and five minutes later Dan Williams making his first team debut saw a goal bound effort blocked after a strong run from the right.
Caersws early pressure paid off when they took the lead in the 14th minute when a Simon Jones free kick was headed back across goal by the recalled James Taylor at the back post and Chris Melia netted beyond keeper Richard Morgan. On 28 minutes Taylor himself headed wide from another Jones free kick and two minutes later Porth had their first real effort when Marc Evans send a shot wide for the visitors. Porth then equalised in the 39th minute when a long free kick by Morgan was flicked on by Chris Jones who advanced to beat Dave Jones in the Caersws goal. Caersws then had a goal disallowed in the 41st minutes when Prosser was harshly penalised, and at the other end two minutes Jones had to be at his best to push Evans 20-yard effort for a corner.
,br>With conditions rapidly deteriorating, the second half developed into a lottery and a midfield battle, with the dangerous Chris Jones seeing a low effort held by Dave Jones on 51 minutes and Prosser headed wide for the home side on 70 minutes. With both teams evenly matched Morgan was forced to pull off an excellent save at the feet of Scott Williams who had broken through the visitors defence. After 74 minutes John Keegan saw an effort saved by Keeper Jones in the last piece of notable action before the final whistle came much to the relief of the players and supporters who would have been happy with a point meaning Porth top the group and qualify for the quarter finals.
