Rhyl 3 Caersws 1

Saturday 14th November, Belle Vue

>Three goals in a 10 minute spell early in the second half saw Caersws lose to Champions Rhyl at Belle Vue, but the Bluebirds battled hard throughout and gave a very creditable performance.
In the very first minute Geraint Lewis shot wide from 25yards and moments later 20 year old Scott Williams saw a fine effort flash across the face of goal.

After 9 minutes Caersws keeper Dave Jones was called into action with a fine save from Matthew Williams and also from the experienced Gareth Owen who shot wide from 18yards on 16 minutes.
Three minutes later Jones again was in action, saving brilliantly to deny the prolific Lee Hunt. However Caersws continued to hold their own with Lewis shooting over and Mark Griffiths flashing a shot wide in the 38th minute.
Two minutes before the interval Jones spread himself well to save Matthew Williams' shot with his legs as the sides went in at half time goal less. However, Rhyl came out in the second half in ruthless and determined mood and in the 47th minute they took the lead when John Leah's free kick from the left was misjudged by the Caersws keeper allowing Mark Connolly to net at the back post. Worse was to follow for the villagers two minutes later when an unmarked Lee Hunt scored with a header following a cross from the right.
With Caersws deflated and shell shocked Rhyl took complete control with Martyn Naylor going close and Jones saving again with his feet to deny tricky winger Tyrone Kirk. However Rhyl soon got their third goal in the 55th minute when Hunt turned superbly before shooting beyond Jones from 20 yards giving the gloveman no chance. Caersws, showing great character came back into the game when Geraint Lewis converted a penalty following a foul on Mark Griffiths by Shaun Dowling. Referee Wayne Tregonning only showing the defender a yellow card when many thought it was a sending off offence.
The goal inspired the bluebirds and the went on the trouble the Rhyl defence in the last 20 minutes of the match, although in the 74th Jones had to be at his best to deny Hunt his hat trick. Overall this was a good performance by the Bluebirds except for two poor goals conceded once again which reversed an excellent first half display.
