Caersws 0 - 1 Neath
13 Feb 2010
Despite producing one of their best performances of the season ,Caersws lost by the only goal of the match to big spending Neath at the Recreation Ground.
Having lost from recently visitors, Manager Andy Dyer made eight changes to his side in order to freshen up. Despite neither goalkeeper having to make any serious saves this was excellent match played with passion throughout, with the villagers matching their visitors in all aspects of play.
In the first minute a slip by defender saw Ashley Evans shoot narrowly from 10 yard. After 33 mins Kieran Howard went close with a overhead kick but 3 mins later and Andy Davies cross saw Chris Melia narrowly fail to connect. Play continued to be fierce and competitive in mid -field but half time arrived with both teams goalless.
Four minuets into the second half a cross from the left By Krista in James was met by Spaniard Carlos Caster who volleyed narrowly wide. After 55mins a 30 yard free kick from Mathew Prosser flew over the Neath crossbar and four minutes later a Graham Jones effort was blocked by Kristain James. On 65 mins a Sean Cronin cross from the right was comfortably dealt with by home keeper Dave Jones.
The introduction of Sub Jake Llewellyn paid dividends in the 68th minute the ex Wrexham and Grimsby welsh international play a neat one -two with Ashley Evans to net beyond the Jones from 12 yards..
The final 20 minutes certainly belonged dto the bluebirds with Mark Griffiths seeing his header cleared off the line by Luke Morgan after 71 mins Andy Davies should have done better two minutes later but shot over after being set up by Griffiths with Caersws still looking for what would have been a deserved equaliser.. Jacob Smith drilled a effort across goal only to miss the back post by inches with Neath keeper Anthony Williams beaten in the 89th minute.. In the final minute Jones was forced to push Castains effort away for a corner.
A very encouraging performance with every Caersws playing their hearts out and overall deserved at least a share of the points.
