Caersws - 1-0 Elements Cefn Druids

Saturday February 22nd

A superbly taken late goal by Mark Griffiths gave Caersws a deserved 3 points in this basement battle on a heavy pitch at the Recreation Ground. Caersws dominated most of the play throughout and had it not been for a great goalkeeping display by visitors Chris Mullock this game could have been over as a contest by half time.

On 10 minutes following a free kick Jon Rush saw a close range effort saved by Dave Jones in the home goal.

After 22 minutes following good work by Lee Jenkins, Graham Jones saw his header cleared off the line and on the half hour an excellent cross by Andy Davies saw Phil Jones diving header pushed around the post by Mullock. A minute later, Mullock was once again in action saving low down from Jones. After 33mins visitors captain josh Griffiths shot over from 25yards.

Six minutes from interval, Caersws hit a purple patch which saw Mullock produce some superlative saves.

Mark Griffiths turned brilliantly only to see his effort deflected for a corner on 39mins. Mullock then saved with his legs from the same player and a minute before the interval following an Andy Davies flick. Mullock once again came to his sides rescue, brilliantly pushing away Griffiths low effort away for a corner.
Caersws continued to look much the better side in the 2nd half and in the 53min were awarded a penalty when Dan Barnett brought down Phil Jones in the box. From the resulting spot kick Geraint Lewis saw his well struck shot thunder against a post with Mullock beaten.

Two minutes later a mistake by Dave Jones saw Jon rush shoot over. On the hour graham Jones went close with a 15yard effort, but Jon rush, son of welsh legend Ian, shot wide from 12yards two minutes later. After 65 minutes Mullock was once again in action saving Phil Jones header following good inter play with sub. Jacob smith.
It was all way traffic at this stage with Andy Davies shooting wide after 73mins and sub Chris Melia seeing his shot held after a Mark Griffiths cross on 82mins.

The solitary goal arrived in the 88th minute when Smith threaded a superb ball inside the full back to Mark Griffiths who scored from the tightest of angles to the delight of the home supporters.
The win takes the Bluebirds away from the foot of the table to be replaced by their visitors.
